Is Apple's new TV bound for Best Buy with a $1499 price tag?

The Apple rumor mill has been pretty busy as of late with the iPad 3. However, it's also managed to generate quite a bit of excitement surrounding the much-rumored iTV or Apple HDTV. Despite no confirmation from Apple (and unlike the iPad 3, we don't have previous products and upgrade cycles to go on), many believe the Cupertino-based company has been working on the project for some time and that we'll finally see the fruits of its labor this year. Adding fuel to the fire is a new survey from Best Buy that was sent to customers and is now doing the rounds on the blogosphere.

It's not unusual for companies to send out surveys regarding new products for customers to fill out. It helps them gauge consumer interest for new stuff. However, according to the Verge, a recent Best Buy survey included information on the as-yet-unconfirmed Apple TV. Described as a 42-inch affair, Best Buy prices the 1080p HDTV at $1499 and says it will run iOS. The TV will support the App Store, iTunes, and iCloud, and users will be able to use their iPhone or iPad as a remote control for the TV. Lastly, the survey mentions an iSight camera complete with microphone and support for Skype.

For its part, Best Buy says the survey was run by a research partner and that references to the Apple TV or possible specs of said TV were hypothetical. Okay, so if we're to believe Best Buy, the product description included in the company's survey was a hypothetical based on the rumors we've been hearing about for months. And, yes, that does make sense. However, it all sounds a little familiar to us. Anyone else remember way back in 2009, when Borders sent out a similar survey asking customers if they planned to buy an 'iPAD' the following year? That reference to Apple's unconfirmed and unannounced iPad was said to be an assumption based on rumors, too...
